Music has always been an important part of my life. I remember looking through my mom's collection of vinyl when I was young, and in awe of the people on the covers. I had my own Fischer Price turntable (I'm really aging myself here!) and my top favorite albums to listen to were Kenny Rogers, Blondie, and Olivia Newton John. (I also had a 45" of The Empire Strikes Back with matching picture book that I loved.)
As I got older, and vinyl gave way to cassettes, my favorite present to get on my birthday or for any celebration was a tape. I played my tapes while coloring, playing in my room, and also lip syncing to my favorite songs from Madonna and Heart. And if you invited me to your birthday party, you could be sure you were getting a cassette of one of my favorites for your present.
Music, and the artists I adored, were such important parts and influences in shaping who I am. Madonna helped me learn a love for fashion, and the importance of playing with your style and expressing yourself. Heart showed me that women could be total bad asses in a man's world of rock n' roll. And Prince's music showed me how much emotion you could feel and express through music. The Purple Rain LP would literally give me the chills when I listened to it. These artists and their art helped me connect to who I am and what I was feeling at different times in my life.
So it makes sense that music is such an important part of my boudoir shoots. It can really help to create an intimate vibe and really set the tone for your shoot. It also helps you get in the mood and connect with your sensual side. With a great playlist, it can help you feel more comfortable, expressive and playful, which is going to help you relax and let go.
I recommend starting a playlist to listen to during your shoot, and anytime you want to feel empowered, feminine and sexy. Think of it as the soundtrack to your bad ass life!
Here’s a list of some of my favorite songs to get you in the mood and feeling like the sexiest version of yourself.
